I absolutely loved this book! Kristen Russell has a way of writing that places you right in the middle of the story. The characters are so well developed that by the end of the book I felt as though they were my friends. You will be able to relate to each one and their emotions. Their experiences and challenges are ones that we have all experienced; a lost love, a family member who needs forgiveness, a regret that we can't forget... I laughed and cried through the whole book! After reading the plot summary, I expected the story to be more melancholy than it actually was. It was quite the opposite. It was uplifting and surprising. I couldn't put it down. I read it in less than 2 days. You will not be disappointed. I can't wait for her next book!Product details

This book was very cinematic in its writing, and i would love to see it turned into a film. The relationships between the characters were completely honest and true. i loved getting to know all of them. Look into this book...you wont regret it!
Recovering Ramona is a wonderful read, fast paced and enjoyable, It touched me and brought tears to my eyes on so many levels... it reminds me that there is the "family" I am born into and the "family" I create.... a touchstone we can all relate to ... well done! Polly Parsons
This was a fun read. I love how Kristin Russell uses real places and real songs to develop her plot and characters. This book was a true joy ride. And the best part? I now have a Recovering Ramona CD I can pop in the car. She lists the songs used throughout the book on the inside back cover. My son downloaded all the songs to my iTunes and when I listen my mind takes me back to Claudia Nichols and that 1986 Volvo. Recovering Ramona can be enjoyed by all generations.
Kristin Russell leads us on a journey of examining real relationships, which are messy, dysfunctional and full of love. The reader will relate to the family secrets kept by all of us due to our own fears. Russell's debut novel describes a journey of Claudia finding herself through her relationships with others....especially the relationship with her mother. Thank you Kristin Russell for allowing us to FEEL the heart of Claudia and the other characters in Recovering Ramona!
Kristin Russell has written a compelling novel filled with well rounded and endearing characters. These are people you would hang out with or at least have crossed paths with in your own life's journey. The relationship between the mother and daughter is at the center of the story; at moments painful and other moments funny but above all real. The images played out like a movie and I couldn't wait to finish it! I'm sure this won't be the last time I read it....it's just that good!
Recovering Ramona takes the reader on an unexpected journey. The novel examines the complexities of the mother-daughter relationship in the context of a stranded roadtrip through the desert. At first glance her characters look to be from completely different planets, but in the end, their shared humanity and quest for the good brings them around a common table. From a pot-growing, organic food eating desert dweller who gazes into the night sky for signals of transcendence to a (deeply stereotyped) evangelical teetotaler who exemplifies what we love to hate most about christians, Mrs. Russell's sympathetic eye for self-delusion is welcome in this story with quirky, yet relatable characters. The story renders meaningful the quarter, mid or three-quarter life crisis. The ending was a bit too tidy for my taste, but the journey there made it a very enjoyable and insightful read... even for a guy.
This is a fun imaginative read. I enjoyed it and recommend it for a light read. I hope she writes another one!
